Tax implications from DOMA, Gay marriage and Immigration Reform 2013...

As of today June 27, 2013, looks like the reminder of 2013 will be so different from prior years. And the 2014 will be so much different that prior years too.

By the way, this post got me in the middle of my East Coast Tour, more news soon.

To begin yesterday the Supreme court turn down DOMA the defense of marriage act signed by president Bill Clinton back in 1996 that defines marriage between a man a woman. A big victory for Gay rights and advocates of equality.

But what this decision means in practical matters? It means that the Federal government no longer can’t refuse to recognize all the federal benefits to gay married couples that were granted to heterosexual married couples, second class citizens. From now on gay married couples can file federal taxes together, can qualify for surviving spouse social security benefits, can sponsor a spouse for immigration purposes just like any other married couple in America, can be recognized as next of kin at the federal level, can have their surviving spouse rights recognized by the federal government, and this are the ones that I can think of the tip of mu head since I’m involved in the finances and taxes of my almost 200 clients.

This means the finances of this gay people will be boost from this federal benefits in the states that fully recognized gay marriages.

And I’m writing all of this while I’m following the final vote on immigration reform on CSPAM, which will be another boost for the economy and my business. It is 3:55pm and in 5 more minutes I’ll know if I’m going to have even more clients to reconcile their taxes for the past years, Think of you career and of all of the sudden
you get 11 million potential new clients in all America.

If this bill passes it means that every single undocumented individual will have the opportunity to have their immigration status back to current and with the chance to become citizens after 13 long years. For my accounting business I know a lot of undocumented individuals that own businesses, own a houses and work and have children born in America.

And since undocumented individuals do not qualify for a Social Security Card then no-residents individuals qualify for a Tax Identification Number, which is a number that works kind of a social security number but it can be used only to file taxes, so A lot of undocumented individuals file taxes with this TIN numbers, a lot of undocumented individuals do not file taxes because of the rhetoric that we all have heard for the past 10 years, “self-deportation”, “go back to your country and come back legally”, etc. and a lot more harsh language that lingers with bigotry from the far right in the politics.

I’m not going to speak about politics here, I only speak about business and search for a better opportunities in life.

We all know that after the majority of Latino voters rejected the GOP now we have some of the GOP pushing for immigration reform as a way to distant themselves from the old damaging rhetoric that just made them lose the White House..

But do you think that undocumented individuals are just there with their little arms crossed and crying? NO, I have heard about this unthinkable campaign of the 13-5, which is undocumented individuals campaigning in the Latino communities to have the GOP reach 5% of the Latino vote in 13 years, the same years that the GOP wants undocumented individuals to obtain their citizenship. 13-5.

IMMIGRATION REFORM 2013: So far 68 YES VS 32 NO.  The bill had passed tin the Senate, now it is on its way to the House of representatives to be debated and a final vote.

OK, now I have to keep on preparing my company to the future flow of new clients that will be in need of my services. That is a lot of work on studying the new law; train all of my current and new tax accountants to be able to effectively help everybody.

The 2013 businees wheel keeps on moving after tax season ended..

As of today June 2013 I’m still recovering from the 2013 Tax Season. And I already started the plans that I have for  the OREM organization for the rest of 2013. Taking things easy and reading my real estate principles book. I know the business wheel keeps on moving.

For starters we have built and still building a Real Estate Company in California. OREM Real Estate. I submitted the Real Estate Corporation application to the California Secretary of state; And after much consideration we have some Real Estate Brokers to helps us with this effort.
Margot & me studying real estate.

At the same time we started to build a Real Estate study group to crunch the 3 classes required by California to obtain our sales Real Estate license, Real Estate Principles, Real Estate Practice and Real Estate Finance, we planned on finish by the end of the year. So far we have 9 members in this study group and we are still accepting more members to join our organization once the
license is in place.

We also have planned an east coast tour, I’ll be touring some major cities in the east coast to visit some friends, clients and potential income tax preparers, I’m planning to visit Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and Philadelphia. We are still working on the details. I can’t wait for July and visit Boston, Hartford, New York, Pennsylvania, etc

We’ll be posting ads for recruiting tax accountants in those places soon, if you’re interested and want to hear about the details of this job, please refer to our website in the link bellow.

I’m also proud to announce that after waiting for almost for 1 year we finely obtained some approvals for our   Acceptance Agents. An Acceptance Agent is an individual that can process a tax identification number for non-resident individuals (individuals without papers) and since the Amnesty law seems imminent this year, that means that we will be very busy helping this individuals in the whole country, yes their tax powers are valid in 50 of the 50 united states.

Congratulations to Robert, Xiomara and Merwin for this accomplishment.

We are still waiting on the IRS approval for other 8 applicants for Acceptance Agents.

I may not seem like a lot but by just thinking on what needs to be done here to keep everything working all of the sudden seems like a lot or responsibility, many people rely on me and this organizations.

Amazing 2013 tax season, coming up soon OREM Lending & Real Estate...

Helping Jezlan with her income tax needs
Hollywood - California

We are finally in May 2013 and I am worn out after the last tax season; more clients and supervised tax preparers than ever before. We are based in Los Angeles California, and got clients from so far places as Texas, Florida, North Carolina, New York, France!

Andres in Briare- France
What makes me most happy this year is that I met more awesome and cool new clients everywhere, clients with all kind of backgrounds and interests. I learned a lot from each of my clients and it makes me so happy to be able to be part of it.

Monica - Orlando Florida
Our client base grown almost 55% compared with the same of 2012. And the interesting fact is that most of our clients have a business going on, it doesn’t surprised me, I think is a sign of the times that we live, the economy is still recovering and I would say there is no better time to start a business or consultation company than now. And this is why, if you start a small business in this economy and you get a couple of clients it is great but knowing that the economy will improve in the following years are even better, why? Because you know the following years the struggle will be less hard than this year, and with a healthier economy your client base will grow in the following years.

Satisfied 2013 Clients and work outside Los Angeles video

Jorge - Greensboro -North Carolina
Some people would say that if that is so then why I do not follow my own advice? I do, trust me I do. Interesting fact is that among my accounting clients I counted 18+ clients that are ready to buy, sell, and refinance their properties. Is not that great?  And therefore I think is wise to star OREM Lending & Real Estate as of 2013

Now all the sudden I feel like there is not enough time left for this 2013, I only have eight more months to create, to hire real estate sales people, to create the website, to advertise everywhere, and to get a real estate license myself

I know, I know, probably obtaining a real estate license should be on the top of the list, but lucky me based on information provided by the California Department of Real Estate I can hire a broker, hire real estate sales people, and create a real estate company without having my own license yet.

Elizabeth - North Carolina

Funny fact is that I have mentioned to some of my friends and accounting clients (real estate licensees) and they have shown interest in working in my non yet existing company.

Another fact that makes me happy is that lucky me, I live in California where real estate property is one of the heist in America with no need to expand to other states.

Meeting more amazing people in the 2013 season...

OREM the pillar

This 2013 tax season is almost over, and we still have 8 days more to go. This year I have plenty of reason to feel like we achieved a lot.

To start we helped a lot of new clients in the US. Most of them are awesome business owners, with operations that go from sales, services, consulting, design, etc.

We are so close to reach our goal of getting the client number 150 for this season. But if we don’t it doesn’t matter because with this economy who can tell that has a business that has grown over 25% compared to the prior year?

But it is not only quantity but the quality clients that we are looking for, clients like Husam Salman a clothing designer in the city of Los Angeles, if you want to see more about Husam and his talents you can check it out at our conversation at the link below.

Another reason to be proud is that our company had recruited several new tax accountants and tax agents on multiple cities and states. This business network helps us to further our services far beyond the California border.

And I’m still debating whether or not buy a smart cell phone. I never buy things unless I really need them, and this year with so many new clients submitting tax forms by text message I realized then I need a better phone to be able to read them instead of just forwarding it to my computer.

And by the end of this 2013 I expect a bigger growth by the end of the year, not only because of the RTPR that the IRS is still fighting to enforce but also because either way the IRS will prevail in my opinion.

The IRS had appealed the judge decision to stop the return tax preparer registration or RTPR but because there is already legislation in the congress specifically crafted to provide the IRS with the authority to regulate tax preparers in the nation.

Well, just that makes me feel better because after spending 7 months of my life studying over 8 hou
rs a day to past those 3 tests to have a federal judge to come up and tell me that all that effort , time and money invested on it was for nothing?! Well, I want that judge to be recalled.

So far, I had been supervising the work of 25+ tax preparers and tax agents in the US, and I love it! If you want to become part of our network feel free to check our recruiting website at the link below
